If you think that most digital photo-mosaics are created manually, by arranging smaller images one by one, then you would definitely need to look at what applications the Internet has to offer. Mosamic gives you the possibility of creating high quality mosaics without any effort. Speed, ease of use and quality results are the application's main characteristics, so you don't need any special skills or knowledge to create your own mosaic.

Mosamic is absolutely free and it can be installed in no time. The application is compatible with all popular Windows versions and it can be used on Linux as well. Also, stand-alone Linux and Mac OS X editions have been announced. The application doesn't have any significant impact on a computer's performance and you don't have to meet any special requirements.

When launched, Mosamic will display a simple options panel, from which you can start creating a mosaic, compile a tiles library, view the About information or quit the application. Creating a mosaic is a step-by-step procedure and it involves only a few simple settings. After importing an image from a local folder, you can decide to create a color mosaic, which consists of plain color tiles or you may create a photo mosaic, for which the application will use other images as tiles.

Mosamic allows you to increase or decrease the tile density, regardless of what type of mosaic you choose, but it will place additional options at your disposal, if you opt for a photo mosaic. When creating a photo mosaic, you can set a different size for the tiles, increase or decrease the distance between them and blend the picture with the mosaic. The software can also correct tile colors automatically, to adapt them to the original picture. Photo mosaics are created with other pictures, which you can add to the application's library. This means that you don't have to select the pictures each time you wish to create a mosaic. Furthermore, if you don't have enough pictures on the hard drive, to use as tiles, you can download new ones from Flickr.

Unlike other similar applications, Mosamic is capable of creating a mosaic in just a few seconds. The best part is that the results are quite impressive. You will still be able to see the original image and if you zoom in enough, you will also see the images used as tiles.

Pros

Mosamic is capable of generating high quality mosaics in just a few seconds. It can use images from local folders, but you can also download new ones from Flickr. Also, the application places a good number of customization controls at your disposal.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to address. With Mosamic's powerful features, creating high quality photo mosaics can be done in a few seconds, with nothing more than a few clicks.
